How to play

1

Pick one of the 28 decks — or a custom deck you wrote yourself.

2

Choose a round length: 10 seconds, 90 seconds, 2, 3 or 4 minutes.

3

Hold the phone to your forehead, screen facing your friends. They act it out.

4

Tilt down when you guess right, tilt up to pass. Tapping the bottom or top half works too.

Common questions

The game is stuck in portrait

Act Up is landscape-only by design — that's how it reads on a forehead. If your device is locked to portrait, open Control Centre on iOS or Quick Settings on Android, turn rotation lock off, then reopen the app.

Tilting doesn't register

Tilt uses your phone's motion sensors, so check the motion permission was granted — on iOS that's Settings → Act Up. Also tilt decisively rather than nudging; the game waits for a real angle so it doesn't fire by accident. If it still feels wrong, Settings has three sensitivity levels — gentle, default and strict — plus a calibration offset.

Can I play with no signal?

Completely. Every deck ships inside the app. Nothing to download, nothing to sign into, and it runs fine in airplane mode — planes, cars, festivals, basements.

Which languages are supported?

English, Arabic, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. All 28 decks exist in full in every one of them — not machine-translated stubs. Switch language in Settings.

Can I add my own words?

Yes — that's usually where the best rounds come from. Make a custom deck in the app, name it, add as many prompts as you like. Inside jokes, colleagues' names, whatever your group finds funny. Custom decks live on your device and play exactly like the built-in ones.

Recording a round isn't working

Round recording is iOS only right now. It needs camera and microphone permission, plus photo library access to save the result — check Settings → Act Up if you declined any of those. It also needs free storage; a full device will make it fail silently.

How do I delete my data?

There's nothing on our side to delete — Act Up sends nothing anywhere. Deleting the app removes your settings, stats and custom decks. Recordings you saved to your photo library stay there until you delete them yourself. Full detail on the privacy page.

I found a wrong or offensive prompt

Tell us the deck, the language and the prompt, and we'll fix it in the next update. We'd much rather hear about it than not.

When does it launch?

The app is finished and in the process of being published to the App Store and Google Play. Leave your email and we'll tell you the day it's live.

Report a bug

Send these four things and we can usually fix it fast:

  • Your device and OS version (e.g. iPhone 15, iOS 18.4)
  • The app version — bottom of the Settings screen
  • What you expected, and what actually happened
  • A screenshot or screen recording if you can grab one

Accessibility

Act Up respects your system text size and your reduce-motion setting. Every scoring action has a tap alternative, so tilting is never the only way to play.

If something about the game is hard to use, tell us. That's the feedback we act on fastest.
